Customer Reviews
Poor quality - avoid Opteka at all costsI bought this product because price wise it is a bargain but as my wife commented, there must be a reason. I was excited when I ordered this item - I was getting 12.1 inch digital frame at high resolution with 1GB internal memory at a price of 8 inch digital frames. I did not know then that I will regret this purchase and I recommend to everyone not to repeat my mistake.
I was pleasantly surprised by the image quality when I got the digital frame. The colors were great and the image was better than my lower resolution 10 inch digital frame that I bought a year ago.
So I loaded the internal memory with same pictures that I used in my older digital frame. An hour later I realized that instead of seeing nearly 1000 pictures (that I loaded), the digital frame "stopped" after several hundred pictures. Being electronic engineer, I connected the frame to my PC (that I used to download initially the pictures) and quickly found out that the internal memory was corrupt and I could not read some of the pictures nor delete them.
I sent email to the Opteka customer support and they have been very responsive. They asked me to call them (It is really a shop in NY called 42nd Photo). After 15 minutes on the phone (and multiple attempts to format the internal memory and reload it), they reached same conclusion - defective product with bad memory. So I returned the product and I decided to exchange the frame for another, because I liked the quality of the picture and Opteka support was confident that this is an exception.
Today I received the new frame - same problem!!!!!
Bargain 12" with 1GB
This is a bargain 12" with 1GB.
Pros:
The remote is well designed.
Large frame.
Clear for bright pictures.
1GB internal storage.
The remote can turn off the screen (This is not common in other frames.)
Cons:
Not very good for dark colors. It seems to be very little gray. Thus, for all dark portions, they all look black.
Only one calendar layout.
ps. It's a 800x600 frame, not 1024x768 stated at Amazon.
Very good deal for price
A 12 inch diagonal screen that's bright, good contrast ratio, good resolution (800 x 600) and a nice frame for this price. Pretty good deal to me.
If you're comfortable with a USB cable and a computer you will have no issues.
If you are comfortable with a TV remote you will have no issues.
Pictures looks very good and it also plays some video files too. There seems to be some confusion on the resolution as the documentation covers the 12' and 15' with the first being 800x600 and the latter 1028 x768. Unless you have an very very nice digital camera taking 10 mega pixel shots I think you will be happy. Yes you can set the pictures on random.
I would have preferred touch screen but 8' and 10' touchscreens are more costly than most 12' and 15' non touchscreens.
If you are uber uber picky I would suggest spending a large sum of money on an OLED picture frame.
